Join us for two days FULL of AVID training - from WICOR Workshop to Focused Note-Taking to Using Costa's Levels of Thinking to Increase Inquiry. Our TPS trainers will provide instruction on the use of many research based strategies that can be implemented in any classroom at your AVID site! Dr. Liljedahl's research shows that when students work on thinking tasks in random groups on a vertical whiteboard, they are capable of co-creating incredible amounts of mathematical meaning and collective knowing-and-doing. In this session, participants will look at the Thinking Classroom practices that help students move this collective knowing-and-doing into individual knowing-and-doing while, at the same time, beginning to take responsibility for their own learning. Case managers are tasked with writing compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each child on their caseload. This session will revisit common challenges encountered by case managers during the IEP writing process. Topics covered will include appropriate invitation procedures, accurate completion of the service page, and the correct protocol for drafting amendments. Location: Bishop Room - McKinley

Participants will learn to implement visual supports, physical organization, and structured routines across all settings—from the self-contained and resource classrooms, to the general education setting and to the community. Staff will be able to observe behavior strategies by showing how they look in action. The facilitator will break down common behaviors/mental health concerns by explaining what/why they occur, how to identify effective strategies to address/support, and how the strategies are implemented. In this session, teachers will explore how Google Gemini Gems can be used to create customized AI helpers that support everyday teaching tasks. Participants will learn what Gems are, how to build and personalize them, and how they can be used to save time with lesson planning, brainstorming, writing support, communication, differentiation, and classroom organization. We will look at practical examples of Gems teachers can create for their own needs, such as a lesson-planning assistant, rubric creator, email helper, or student support tool.
